Business
The Brighton & Hove Food Partnership is a UK based charity which started life in 2003, born out of an idea to create a strategic approach to food work in the city, bringing together community organisations, statutory agencies, local businesses and individual residents.
The area in which we are involved has concentrated on building a database and reporting tools for patients who are referred for healthy eating and excercise classes either on a 1 to 1 basis or group courses.
Technical
The main problem behind the patient database was in creating a structure in which database administrators could replicate the way in which the organisation works.
We were initially given a flow chart which represented the different events and actions which could occur as a patient is referred, booked onto and then attends courses. For example; if a patient fails to turn up to a class then a chain of events is set into motion.
The complex functionality we have created enables staff to build their own "programme trees" for scheduling questionnaires, weights and measures, diary events, letters and much more on an automated basis.
